The RESCUBE GW Mess is the replacement acquisition for the measuring vehicle for hazardous materials FL-LB 1/94 stationed at the main fire station in Ludwigsburg in 1993. The measurement equipment vehicle is unique in its kind in the Stuttgart metropolitan region. It was specially tailored to the needs of the Ludwigsburg Fire Department. The years of experience gained by the comrades of the Ludwigsburg Fire Department over the years with the predecessor vehicle were incorporated into the production process. The main task of the GW Mess is the detection of hazardous substances in case of emergency. In addition, the vehicle is used by the Ludwigsburg Fire Department to cordon off and investigate the scene of the incident. The GW Mess was built by BINZ on a MB Sprinter 5.5t chassis. The chassis is powered by a 190 hp unit with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission. In addition, the chassis has extensive safety equipment.

For the firefighting superstructure, the district opted for our innovative RESCUBE box superstructure. The BINZ RESCUBE product brand represents intelligence, future and safety, three brand values of BINZ.
RESCUBE 4.0 stands for an attractive design, a unique working environment for emergency forces, high everyday suitability for a wide range of operational scenarios and maximum safety – thanks to state-of-the-art technology.
The groundbreaking design and innovative spaceframe construction make the RESCUBE a safe place to work. In addition, the RESCUBE scores further points by saving resources and thus occupies a top position in the eco-balance.
The case is divided into two rooms. In the front workspace there is an ergonomic workstation for substance research. With the help of an equipped computer workstation including a retractable multifunctional device and technical literature, the hazardous material can be determined at the scene of the incident. In addition, the workspace has an integrated compressor refrigerator. The second room contains the extensive and high-quality cargo, which is secured in cabinet and shelf modules, according to the regulations of cargo securing. Both workrooms are air-conditioned via a roof air-conditioning system, thus ensuring the best working conditions and a feel-good climate.

The measurement equipment truck houses many measuring devices for detecting chemical substances in the ambient air as well as radioactive substances. With these measuring devices, the fire department can, for example, determine the explosion hazard after gas leaks or the concentration of pollutants in the ambient air after a hazardous material leak.
The equipment of the RESCUBE GW Mess includes:
A dosimeter, a dose rate warning u. A dosimeter, a dose rate warning and measuring device for determining the dose rate in radiation protection operations, a contamination detection device is required to generate evidence of contamination in radiation protection operations by determining the pulse rate, a Bio EnviCheck provides qualitative detection of protein in biological samples, a 6-channel measuring device generates the measurement of explosion hazard, oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, chlorine and hydrogen sulfide, in addition, a 15-channel gas measuring device ensures the simultaneous measurement of inorganic and organic substances in the air. The gas detector is required for leak detection of methane and hydrogen, the photoionization detector can be used to quantitatively detect volatile substances in the air, test tubes are used to measure the 44 ETW substances, the test tubes Frigene provide detection of firgens in the air, a photometer with heating block and cuvette test COD enables the determination of chemical oxygen demand in water samples, the rapid tests for water analysis provide the detection of ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, cyanide, chromate and chlorine in aqueous samples. The Raman spectrometer allows the identification of substances that are Raman active, a backpack is used to hold a federal CBRN sampling equipment, furthermore the load includes a thermal imaging camera, an endoscope and a weather station to measure temperature, humidity, precipitation amount and wind speed. Data is transmitted via radio to the workstation in the GW Mess.
With this comprehensive equipment and the resulting measurement results, the incident command can then initiate further measures and assess the hazard potential for emergency forces and the population.

The vehicle belongs to the hazardous materials platoon of the Ludwigsburg district and is alerted throughout the district to operations involving hazardous materials as part of the hazardous materials platoon concept. As a result, the procurement and maintenance of the GW Mess is the responsibility of the Ludwigsburg district.

We wish the comrades of the Ludwigsburg Fire Department a safe journey and a safe return from their missions. We would like to thank the employees of the District Office and all project participants of the Ludwigsburg Fire Department for the trusting, constructive and very good cooperation!
