Ilmenau / Thuringia

Our main plant in Ilmenau is located in the green heart of Germany – the Thuringian Forest.

Ambulances, official vehicles, emergency vehicles and vehicles with mobile medical technology are designed and produced in the four associated factory halls.

More than 200 people are currently employed at the Ilmenau site. Every year, around 1,500 vehicles leave our workshops to go into service in Germany and around the world.

Plants 1 to 3 are located in the industrial park ‘Am Vogelherd’ in Ilmenau. Our Plant 4 supports from the adjacent industrial park ‘Am Wald’.

Plant 1 – Headquarters

Our Plant 1 in Ilmenau is the headquarters of BINZ. Development and design, administration, sales and quality assurance for our vehicles and products take place here. The 16,000m2 factory hall offers space for production and assembly on the vehicle according to our business areas. In addition, the vehicle handover to our customers takes place here.

Plant 2 – Interior production

Plant 2, directly behind the main building, is home to our interior production. The ultra-modern CNC machinery allows a variable, modular production of the internals for our special vehicles. The heart of this production is a 5-axis CNC milling machine.

Plant 3

Another location for manufacturing and logistics in the immediate vicinity of the main plant.

Plant 4 – Service

Our plant 4 is located in the neighboring industrial park “Am Wald”, approx. 500m as the crow flies from the main plant. Here is our service and other production area. The handovers for special series also take place here.

Foundation of VEB MLW Labortechnik Ilmenau (VEB=Volkseigener Betrieb, MLW=Medizin-, Labor- und Wägetechnik)

From 1989

Cooperation with the Thuringia-based “VEB Labortechnik Ilmenau” – successful for many decades as producer of the GDR rescue vehicles of the types Barkas B 1000 SMH 2 and SMH 3 (SMH = Schnelle Medizinische Hilfe)

From 1991

Foundation of BINZ Ambulance- und Umwelttechnik GmbH Ilmenau and takeover of the activities of Labortechnik GmbH Ilmenau, “Mobile Technology” division. Relocation of the production of time-consuming and labor-intensive products, such as emergency medical service vehicles and VW T4-Ambulances to Ilmenau

2001

The 1,500th special vehicle leaves the Ilmenau plant

2013

Presentation of the innovative RESCUBE concept at the RETTmobil. The groundbreaking development of a box body in TopCompositeDesign technology, which focuses on the activities of the rescue service.

2015

Takeover of BINZ Ambulance- und Umwelttechnik GmbH by the current shareholders

2017

Construction of a completely new interior production facility with state-of-the-art CNC machinery in the new Plant 2

2019

  • Number of employees rises to 200
  • Presentation of the new electronically supported patient storage system for field use

2020

  • In-house exhibition with the Minister of Economics of the State of Thuringia, Wolfgang Tiefensee
  • Presentation of the revolutionary disinfection system with UV-C light by means of LED, patent application
  • Occupation of the new service building

2021

  • Acquisition of the previously rented Plant 3
